This electronic edition is a hyperlinked transcription of the first book of Milton's Paradise Lost: A New Edition, by Richard Bentley, D.D. (London, 1732). I may eventually find the time to annotate it; for now, it's just a minimally edited transcription.

The text of Paradise Lost, Book I, is available in two forms:

In two frames, text at the top and notes at the bottom, suitable for reading on-screen;
In one long file, suitable for printing or reading in browsers that do not support frames.

A note on the text explains the few emendations I've made.

As of January 2001, the transcription still needs a careful proofreading: I'm working on that now. Comments and corrections, though, are always welcome.
